18 Things I Learned at 18

Hello friends!

As some of you may know, it's finally my birthday!!! WOO!!!
I'm excited to say that I've made it through another great year and throughout this time I've learned and experienced many new things which I thought I'd share with you all.

Here are 18 things I've learned as an 18 year old:

1. To stop caring about what others think. In fact, people mostly focus on their own doings. If someone decides to be judgemental toward a decision you've made, remember that life goes on! It's important to embrace your own hobbies as those are what makes you unique so don't pay attention to negative comments and keep doing you.

2. How to properly do laundry. I know this sounds silly but the first time I attempted to do the washing I added bleach in by accident and ruined a couple of our new pillow cases. This is a friendly reminder to not bleach dark or coloured clothing!

3. That making choices and doing things for myself is important for personal growth and happiness.

4. Boys/relationships do not determine your worth/confidence/happiness- those all begin within yourself.

5. Surround yourself with people who know how awesome you are and make you feel like you're 10/10 at all times.

6. It's okay to cry and to openly express your emotions. Letting it out is healthy if you express those feelings in an appropriate way.

7. Taking a break from social media does not make you "lame" or any less of a person, besides you're most likely not missing out on anything meaningful or important anyway.

8. In the words of Tom Haverford, don't forget to "treat yo'self". Whether that means visiting your local Lush to buy more bath bombs or going out with your besties for froyo, if it makes you happy then by all means go for it.

9. Take risks and step out of your comfort zone. You never know if you'll enjoy something if you restrict yourself. You could even have an undiscovered talent!

10. Travelling and having a change of scenery no matter how big or small can really change your perspective of the world.

11. Being empathetic toward others can also open up your perspective and help you have a better understanding of those around you.

12. Nothing is permanent- if you're going through a hard time right now keep in mind that it may feel like the end of the world but chances are in a year from now it ultimately won't matter. With time, you will heal and become stronger from your experiences whether they're good or bad.

13. This quote sort of relates to my last point and it really resonated with me: “Your body is not a temple. Temples can be destroyed and desecrated. Your body is a forest – thick canopies of maple trees and sweet scented wild flowers sprouting in the underwood. You will grow back, over and over, no matter how badly you are devastated.”

14. When you're sad, Netflix is one click away and pizza is one call away.

15. If Leo can win an Oscar, anything you put your mind to is possible! Don't lose sight of your goals!

16. To not procrastinate with school work or any other tasks because leaving things to the last minute is a recipe for disaster. Plan ahead and be consistent! Besides, that's much more fun than feeling rushed and anxious.

17. Support others, don't bring them down. You never know what someone could be going though so always be kind.

18.  Enjoy the moments of your teen years because before you know it they'll be over, so take as many risks as you can (within reason, of course) and reach for your aspirations and goals. It will all be worth it in the end!

I hope everyone has a good day/night and thank you for taking the time to read this!!
